Smart control of visitor flows

In heavily frequented areas, it is becoming more and more important to identify movement patterns. This data can be used to optimise the layout of spaces and regulate the flow of people in order to increase safety or reduce waiting times.

Smart control of visitor flows

Blickfeld's 3D LiDAR sensors provide a powerful solution for detecting and counting people featuring a wide and adaptable field of view making them perfectly suited for monitoring large areas. The sensors’ high resolution ensures reliable differentiation of individuals, while maintaining people's privacy at all times, as LiDAR sensors only collect 3D data without image data ensuring identification of individuals is not possible.

The system convinced our experts at STEMMER IMAGING due to its easy installation and minimal maintenance requirements. Blickfeld's flexible software package makes the detection, classification, counting and tracking of objects easy.

Anonymised detection of individuals
The sensors generate point cloud data which is processed as 3D image data to detect individual people and record their movements while keeping their identities anonymous.

The Munich-based company‘s perception software enables people to be counted while movements and walking paths to be analysed across all sensors.

The advantage: comprehensive insights into the movement of passenger flows.

Application example: Airport
The airport operator Fraport has installed several Cube 1 Blickfeld LiDAR sensors in hall A of Terminal 1 to provide an overview of the entry and exit zones as well as areas before check-in and the security checkpoint. The sensors generate point cloud data to create an accurate 3D image of the hall and record passengers and their movement path through the terminal while keeping their identities anonymous.

Using the data helps predict passenger numbers waiting at both the check-in and the security checkpoints allowing staffing to be adapted, to minimise long waiting times, improving passenger satisfaction.

LiDAR sensors are exceptionally well suited for this purpose due to only capturing distance data over a relatively long range with wide field of view coupled with the fact that no personal information is captured thus meeting all data protection specifications.
