TDK Adds Wide-Input Three-Phase 3 kW Power Supply

TDK Corporation has expanded its HWS3000 programmable AC-DC power supply series with the HWS3000GT4, a 3 kW model supporting a wide three-phase input voltage range of 340–528 Vac. The new power supply targets industrial automation, semiconductor manufacturing, test and measurement, laser processing, RF systems, and other applications requiring programmable power conversion and compatibility with global power infrastructures.

Programmable Power Supply for Global Industrial Systems
The HWS3000GT4 extends the HWS3000 series by introducing support for wide-range three-phase industrial power networks while maintaining fully programmable constant-voltage (CV) and constant-current (CC) operation. Engineers can adjust both output voltage and current from zero to the maximum rated values, allowing precise power control during system development, production testing, and equipment operation.

Programming is supported through an RS485 interface using the MODBus protocol or via analog 1–5 V and 4–20 mA control signals, enabling integration with PLCs, industrial automation platforms, and test equipment. The programmable power supply also allows digital configuration without energizing the unit, simplifying commissioning procedures and improving operator safety.

Scalable Architecture for Industrial Equipment
The HWS3000GT4 delivers 3000 W from a three-phase input of 340–528 Vac and is available with nominal output voltages of 24 V, 48 V, 60 V, 80 V, 130 V, and 250 V. Output voltage programming covers a range from 0 to 300 V.

Housed in a compact enclosure measuring 270 × 150 × 61 mm, the unit supports connection of up to three power supplies in series or up to ten units in parallel, enabling higher voltage or current configurations for scalable industrial power systems.

Additional digital functions include programmable voltage slew-rate control, cumulative operating-time monitoring, fault logging, and product identification, providing enhanced diagnostics and lifecycle management.

Designed for Industrial Reliability
The power supply incorporates a 5 V, 2 A standby output, remote on/off control, remote sensing, power-good indication, and fan-failure monitoring as standard features. With conversion efficiency reaching up to 93%, internal heat generation is reduced, supporting reliable operation within the compact mechanical design.

The unit operates across ambient temperatures from -20 °C to +70 °C, with cold start capability down to -40 °C. Above +50 °C, output power is linearly derated to 50% at +70 °C. Output terminals can be configured in either horizontal or vertical orientations to simplify installation within different cabinet layouts.

For demanding industrial environments, the optional /HD version incorporates dual-sided PCB coating and complies with MIL-STD-810G shock and vibration requirements. An optional /RF configuration reverses airflow direction to accommodate system-specific cooling designs.

Safety Compliance and Electrical Performance
The HWS3000GT4 provides 3000 Vac input-to-output isolation, 2000 Vac input-to-ground isolation, and 1500 Vac output-to-ground isolation. Leakage current remains below 0.85 mA, while the maximum operating, transportation, and storage altitude reaches 5000 m, or 2000 m when operating under IEC/EN 62477-1 requirements.

The series is certified to IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 and IEC/EN 62477-1 (OVC III) and carries CE and UKCA conformity for Low Voltage, EMC, and RoHS directives. It also complies with EN 55032 Class A, EN 55011 Class A, FCC Class A emission requirements, EN 61000-3-2 harmonic limits, and IEC 61000-4 immunity standards.

Additional Context: Technical Specifications and Competitive Benchmarking
Programmable AC-DC power supplies in the 3 kW class are widely used in semiconductor processing equipment, industrial automation systems, battery testing, and laboratory instrumentation. Key evaluation criteria include programmable constant-voltage/constant-current operation, communication interfaces, efficiency, scalability through parallel or series operation, operating temperature range, and compliance with international safety standards.

The HWS3000GT4 distinguishes itself by combining a wide 340–528 Vac three-phase input range with programmable outputs up to 300 V, support for RS485 MODBus communication, up to 93% efficiency, and the ability to connect up to three units in series or ten in parallel. Comparable industrial programmable power supplies are available from manufacturers including TDK-Lambda's TPS series and other industrial power supply suppliers, although supported input voltage ranges, communication interfaces, mechanical dimensions, scalability, and environmental specifications vary depending on the application requirements.
